Former LASD Custody Assistant Pleads No Contest to Forcing Inmate Into Sex Acts
LANCASTER, CA — On March 7, 2025, District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman announced that Daniel Everts, a former Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) Custody Assistant, pleaded no contest to forcing a female inmate to engage in sex acts at the Lancaster Station in June 2019.
“What happened to the victim in this case is unacceptable, and our office will not stand for such serious abuses of power,” Hochman stated. “Anyone in law enforcement who exploits their position to harm those in custody must face the consequences. We will push for the maximum prison sentence.”
Everts, born January 31, 1995, admitted to all charges in case BA490510, including:
One felony count of forcible oral copulation
One felony count of oral copulation under color of authority
One felony count of sexual activity with a detained inmate
The plea was entered despite objections from the prosecution. Sentencing is scheduled for July 7 at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center in Department 122. Prosecutors will seek the full eight-year state prison sentence, and by law, Everts will be required to register as a sex offender for 20 years.
The case was handled by the Justice System Integrity Division and investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
