Trump Supports Idea of Giving Some DOGE Savings Back to U.S. Citizens
President Donald Trump expressed his support for the idea of using savings from Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency to provide dividends to U.S. citizens.
At an investment conference in Miami on Wednesday, Trump shared that the administration is considering a plan where 20% of the savings generated by DOGE’s cost-cutting efforts would be given to American citizens, with another 20% directed toward reducing the national debt.
Trump emphasized that offering dividends would motivate people to report wasteful government spending. “They’ll be reporting it themselves,” he said, “They’ll participate in the process of saving us money.”
On his flight back to Washington aboard Air Force One, Trump was asked about the proposal Musk had suggested. “I love it,” Trump responded enthusiastically.
The day before, Musk had posted on social media that he would "check with the President" about the idea of a “DOGE Dividend,” which would refund taxpayers with a portion of the savings generated by DOGE. This initiative has already led to thousands of federal government job cuts.
