Arson Suspect Caught by Witnesses, Arrested After Setting Brush Fire in Chatsworth

A suspected arsonist was caught by a group of witnesses and later arrested after allegedly setting a small brush fire in Chatsworth on Monday, February 3, authorities said.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD), the fire broke out around 4:30 p.m. near Knapp Ranch Road and Woolsey Canyon Road. Witnesses saw the suspect walking away from the scene after lighting the fire and decided to follow in their vehicles.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames, which burned approximately 100 square feet of brush.

Authorities have not released the suspect’s name, age, or gender. However, the person was arrested on suspicion of arson and is scheduled to appear in court on February 5.
