Man Fatally Shot by CHP After Pursuit Ends in Winnetka

WINNETKA, CA — A man was fatally shot by California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers after a police pursuit ended in a cul-de-sac early Wednesday morning, February 26.

The pursuit concluded around 2:30 a.m. on the 7200 block of Sunny Brae Avenue. Details leading up to the chase are unclear.

According to reports, CHP officers opened fire on the suspect after he reportedly exited the van and drew a handgun. Surveillance footage from a nearby home captured at least a dozen gunshots.

The suspect’s family confirmed he was 21 years old and lived in the area. Authorities also stated the van had been speeding and driving erratically prior to the pursuit.

CHP Sgt. Daniel Keene confirmed that the investigation is being handled by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), but declined to provide further details. LAPD has also refrained from commenting on the ongoing investigation.
