Teen Charged with Attempted Murder After Stabbing at Protest in Downtown Los Angeles

Los Angeles – A juvenile has been charged with attempted murder after an altercation at a protest in downtown Los Angeles on February 7, 2025, led to the stabbing of another teenager.

District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman announced today that his office has filed a felony charge of attempted murder against the suspect. He expressed strong disapproval of the violent incident, stating, "Violence has no place in our public spaces. We understand that people have the right to express their views, but this right must be exercised with respect for the safety and well-being of others. The consequences of such actions are serious, and we are committed to holding individuals accountable for endangering others."

The District Attorney also extended his support to the victim and their family. "Our thoughts are with the victim as they recover from this traumatic experience, and we are dedicated to supporting them through this difficult time," Hochman said.

The juvenile, whose identity has not been publicly disclosed, pleaded not guilty to the charges during an arraignment held on February 18, 2025, in Juvenile Court. The court proceedings will continue with the next hearing scheduled for March 7, 2025. If convicted, the suspect could face significant legal consequences, though as a juvenile, the outcome will be determined within the scope of the juvenile justice system.

The case has been investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department, and the prosecution is being handled by the Juvenile Division of the District Attorney's Office. The department is continuing its investigation into the circumstances leading up to the stabbing.

Protests and public demonstrations are often a way for individuals to voice their concerns and opinions, but law enforcement and authorities have made it clear that violence will not be tolerated. In the wake of this incident, the District Attorney’s Office is emphasizing the importance of peaceful and respectful expressions of protest.
