Suspect Arrested for Looting in Pacific Palisades Following Recent Fires

On February 21, 2025, at approximately 1:00 PM, California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers from the West Valley Area Office were alerted to a looting incident at a home in Pacific Palisades. The residence had been heavily damaged by recent fires. Despite their quick response, officers were unable to find the suspect at the scene. However, the victim provided a detailed description of the suspect and the vehicle involved.

Using this information, officers tracked the vehicle to an address in Valencia. They then called for backup from CHP Newhall officers. Upon arriving at the Valencia address, the Newhall officers located the suspect, Karen Mastey, who was found with antique items stolen from the looted Pacific Palisades home.

Mastey was arrested on charges of Grand Theft under Penal Code 487(a) and booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

CHP officers have remained committed to supporting the Pacific Palisades community in the aftermath of the fires, providing vital resources and assistance to those impacted. Chief Margaris expressed pride in the officers’ dedication, saying, "I am incredibly proud of the swift action taken by our officers to protect the public and prevent further harm. Their commitment to serving and assisting those in need during this challenging period reflects the highest standards of the CHP."

For more information or to inquire about the incident, contact the CHP Southern Division at (818) 240-8200 and ask to speak with Sergeant Keene.

The California Highway Patrol is dedicated to providing the highest level of safety, service, and security to the public.
