Southern California Woman Killed by Husband in Alleged Murder Over Affair
SAN BERNARDINO, CA — A devastating tragedy unfolded on January 26 when a Southern California mother was allegedly killed by her husband following a confrontation about an extramarital affair.
The San Bernardino Police Department responded to a crash shortly after midnight near North Perris Hill Park Road and East Pacific Avenue. Officers discovered a vehicle that had crashed into a flood control channel. Inside, two victims, later identified as Asia Guercy, 25, and Charles Dark, 31, were found dead at the scene.
Authorities quickly identified the suspect as Isaac Albert Perez, 31, who was also Asia’s husband. Investigators believe that earlier that day, Perez confronted Asia about the alleged affair at Perris Hill Park. Dark was also present at the scene, but police have not confirmed if he was romantically involved with Asia.
After the confrontation, Asia and Dark attempted to leave, but Perez followed them. He allegedly rear-ended their vehicle, causing it to crash through a chain-link fence and into the flood channel, resulting in the deaths of both victims.
Detectives have classified the crash as a homicide, and Perez was arrested in connection with the incident. He was later charged with two counts of murder by the San Bernardino County District Attorney's Office and pleaded not guilty.
Asia and Perez had been in a relationship for 11 years and shared three young children. Despite the couple’s long history together, court records show that Asia filed a restraining order against Perez in 2021 due to domestic violence, though a judge denied the request.
Asia’s sister, Maliya Guercy, spoke to the Los Angeles Times, revealing that Asia had been planning to leave Perez at the time of the deadly confrontation. Maliya shared that her sister had endured both verbal and physical abuse during the marriage.
The cause of death for both victims has been determined to be blunt force trauma to the head, according to the San Bernardino County Coroner.
In response to the tragedy, loved ones have created a makeshift memorial near the crash site to honor the victims. A GoFundMe page has also been established to assist with funeral expenses for Asia’s family.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information related to the case to contact the San Bernardino Police Department at 909-388-4934.
This heartbreaking incident highlights the urgent need for support systems for those in abusive relationships, as well as a call to raise awareness of the dangers of domestic violence.
