David Bassett Sentenced to Four Years for Vehicle Burglaries at Cemeteries

LOS ANGELES — David Bassett, a 44-year-old man from Rancho Cucamonga, was sentenced to four years in state prison after pleading no contest to felony charges of burglarizing vehicles at cemeteries across Los Angeles County. The burglaries occurred while grieving families visited loved ones or attended funerals.

District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman condemned Bassett's actions, calling them "despicable" and emphasizing that exploiting people during their most vulnerable moments would not go unpunished.

Bassett was convicted of four counts of second-degree burglary of a vehicle, committed between February 5, 2023, and February 25, 2024, at two Forest Lawn cemeteries and Oakwood Memorial Park and Cemetery. In some cases, he used stolen credit cards to make unauthorized purchases.

The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Christopher Barclay and investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department. A restitution hearing is scheduled for March 28, 2025.

District Attorney Hochman praised the efforts of both the prosecution team and Detective Antonio Estrada for their swift and thorough work in holding Bassett accountable.
